A Multidisciplinary Approach for the Vulnerability Assessment of a Venetian Historic Palace: High Water Phenomena and Climate Change Effects

This paper illustrates a multidisciplinary approach aimed at the vulnerability assessment of historic masonry heritage in Venice, focusing on questions method and practice, which specifically involve disciplines restoration, building archaeology structural engineering. Taking into account existing standards for management cultural heritage, an integrated methodology is proposed analyzing interpreting constructions. Particular reference made to Venetian scenery its relationship with water, from worldwide known high tide phenomena new perspectives offered by MOSE (i.e., Experimental Electromechanical Module, system series retractable mobile gates) challenges due climate change. Within such approach, different disciplines, including archeology, contribute obtaining interpretative model buildings subjected phenomena, aim performing design possible restoration interventions. The applied case study palace facing Grand Canal. For this palace, all steps knowledge path have been carried out, historical geometrical, Material-Constructive Survey, Crack Pattern Degradation Analysis stratigraphic analysis. obtained end enriched results preliminary numerical analyses that investigate, greater depth, effects water rising damp front walls. Some previsions activation climatic change, particular terms sea-level rise, are presented.
